Antique French raspberry velvet fabric covered box, lined with deep pink silk pleated lining. Small loop inside lid for a brush or scissors. Brass handle with decorative fastening. Box stands on tiny metal feet.
These boxes were owned by most French women from 1850's into the 1900s. They kept very special treasures and personal possessions in them, such as gloves, collars, lace, jewellery, fans and love letters. The fabric covering and interior may be a little time worn or faded but this is part of it's history and gives each piece it's own warmth and charm. In modern times they are perfect for keeping your sewing projects organised or storing your special jewellery pieces!
