Antique French "Le Monde Illustré" Bound Newspaper Archive 1858. Incredible collection of original Parisian newspapers, preserved by unique binding. A remarkable piece of history. Brown leather spines with gold name and year. Endpapers are beautifully marbled deep green.
The collection is divided into two volumes January - June and July - December. Both volumes are sold together as a pair.
Inside is beautiful illustrations of important news, current affairs, fashion and cartoons, all in black and white. There is a wide range of art and culture including prints of famous artworks and reviews of theatre, ballet and opera.
All the most important events of the year are represented, inlcuding a double page spread illustration of the party in Buckingham Palace for the wedding of Queen Victoria's eldest daughter. There are also contributions from famous authors such as; Amedee Achard, Alexandre Dumas (serial "Captain Richard"), Hector Berlioz, Paul Féval, Mery, Emile de Girardin ("The Daughter of the Millionaire") and George Sand.
Le Monde illustré (title translation: The Illustrated World) was a leading illustrated news magazine in France which was published from 1857–1940.
