Antique French pair of plates. Beautiful transfer design of a flock of birds rising into the sky above a farm cottage and wild climbing rose. Circa 1890.

Stamped on the base with "Faïence, Porcelaines, Cristaux. Grand Dépôt. E. Bourgeois. 21 Rue Drouot, Paris. 33 Rue St Pereot, Marseille"

Emile Bourgeois was not actually a pottery manufacturer but he was a significant retailer of ceramics from his Paris based Grand Dépôt from 1860 - 1905. Emile is credited with introducing Parisien Society to fine English ceramics. In addition to English ceramics he sold French porcelain produced to his own design specifications. This pair of plates is an example of that venture from around 1890. An illustration of the store is included in the photos.

Size approx: 2 cm (H) x 23 cm (D)

Very good condition. Some discolouration due to age and small sections of imperfect glaze due to the handmade nature of the pieces. Small chip on rim of one plate.

Please note that all brocante items are original antique and vintage pieces. Their imperfections are part of their story, which is what makes them so special. Please read the description carefully and check the photos for details of the condition of each item.
