Antique French 'H. Boulenger & Cie' Strawberry Pair of Plates

Antique French pair of round plates. Beautiful hand painted glaze with gorgeous strawberry and blossom design. Circa 1890.

Stamped with "Choisy-le-Roi inside a coat of arms. H. Boulenger & Cie. Made in France"

Hippolyte Boulenger (1836-1892) took over his family's ceramics factory in Choisey-le-Roi 1863 and renamed it H. Boulenger & Cie. He transformed it into a company with an international reputation, exhibiting at the great world's fairs. In 1889 he opened a store in Paris. His sons succeeded him, and continued the business until it closed during the Great Depression in 1934.

Size approx: 3 cm (H) x 21 cm (D)

Very good condition. Some discolouration due to age and small sections of imperfect glaze due to the handmade nature of the pieces.
