Antique French Embroidery Sampler - 1913
Antique French Embroidery Sampler. A special hand made piece, to demonstrate sewing skills. Base is a loose linen with woven red stripes - possible reused or cut from a damaged kitchen cloth. Alphabet, numbers and designs (crown, heart, scales, boat and flower garlands) all sewn in blue wool which has faded with time - the brighter original colour can be seen on the back.
This sampler was created by 10 year old 'Andrie' in 1913.
Some signs of age - discolouration of the fabric and small holes and frayed edges.
